Yesterday, I went with my friends to Dunbar Haunted house, it was a lot of fun. It could've been better if we did not spend ~2 hours lining up. I really should've put my backpack down at home then go instead of going straight from school with all my stuff-- so heavy and made my back hurt like *(&*%#$^(*#*$.... Anyways, I'm glad I went with 7 new friends from 1st years, this made the wait not so boring. Plus, we also tried out a restaurant I searched up that's near the haunted house:
老王記 台灣牛肉麵 Taiwanese Beef Noodle King
located at
8335 Oak Street

The store looks a bit old and like most other Chinese/Asian restaurants, feels a bit oily. So the atmosphere feels like home, but not exactly the most elegant. It's comfortable, and that's enough for me. The utensils, tables and food are clean.

We went in around 6 ish, that time, the store was completely empty, and made me feel a bit bad for recommending it to my newly met friends - because it looks a bit sketchy. But as the time goes by, we have a full restaurant of people. This place is quite popular among local Asians!

The food's price was reasonable, though- my friends asked "this is one $ isn't it?" I have to say the quantity is enough to satisfy most people, although for a guy, you might want to add some side dishes.

I ordered A5 紅燒牛肉麵 (Stewed Beef Noodle in Soup) and it tasted authentic- as good as any 牛肉麵can taste in Canada, really.

Soup is good. A little bit on the salty side, but goes really well with the noodles. Could be a bit more sweet, though. Meat wise, I have to say, the texture of the meat was great. It is cooked just right- softness and gelatin-like texture of the beef and collagen(tendon) are amazing. However, I wish they had maybe used meat that are more fresh(?) because I think I tasted a very slight stink from the meat...

My friend tried A4- Noodle Soup with Stewed Beef and Beef Tendon. 紅燒牛筋、牛肉麵

She let me ate a piece of tendon.I got to say, the tendon should've been cooked in the soup more to let the soup taste soak into it a bit more. The raw taste from the tendon is a bit too prevalent- not all people can withstand that. I say, if you are not Asian and not used to eating tendons, skip this one and go for A5.

Other friends A11: Wonton and Noodles in Soup. It looks great, taste wise, from the fact that he finished all, I guess is good?

Overall, the service is friendly, food is above average (really, you can't find much Chinese/Taiwanese food that taste as good as this in Canada...). Only thing is it is in some area that I would not normally visit. But it is very accessible by public transit having bus stop right in front of it. So- I'll definitely recommend it for people who love home made style Taiwanese food :).

Oh, and one funny picture: I'm not going to tell you what I think this plant looks like..... (lol *look away*)
